New Web page links Kentuckians to local foods
LOUISVILLE, Ky., (Oct 14, 2011)
In an effort to provide more opportunities for consumers to access local foods, Kentucky first lady Jane Beshear and University of Kentucky College of Agriculture Dean Scott Smith unveiled the Kentucky and Local Food Resources Web page today at the American School Health Association meeting in Louisville.
A recipe for success: UK Ag, KDA team up behind local foods
LEXINGTON, Ky., (Aug. 10, 2011) Whether it’s spring, summer, fall or winter, Kentuckians can “Plate It Up” with delicious recipes containing local products.
That’s the message the University of Kentucky Cooperative Extension Service and Kentucky Department of Agriculture hope to spread to consumers with “Plate It Up, Kentucky Proud” through ever evolving, tasty recipes.
“The goal is to get consumers to buy, prepare and preserve more locally grown Kentucky Proud products,” said Janet Johnson, Allen County Cooperative Extension agent for family and consumer sciences and a driving force behind the program. Read More
UK students' farmers market survey provides jumping-off point for discussion
The number of farmers markets across the country has exploded over the past few years, providing marketing opportunities for the small-scale farmer. Students in a University of Kentucky rural sociology class, taught by Keiko Tanaka, wondered exactly who frequented the Lexington Farmers Market and why, so they surveyed 551 shoppers at all three of the market's locations over a two-week period. They will present the results and analysis of their survey in Conference Room A at the Lexington Public Library at 7 p.m. Dec. 7.

The Lemon Tree Restaurant
Come join dietetic and hospitality management students as they learn quantity foods production using Kentucky-grown foods through their operation of the Lemon Tree Restaurant. The Lemon Tree is located on the second floor of Erikson Hall on the UK campus and serves lunch each Tuesday and Thursday at noon sharp.
